SEE IT / AN EDUCATION

Film has always been a love of mine. What equally mirrors my love of watching films is critiquing them. As I am currently trying to map out my future, I’ve become increasingly interested in USC’s critical studies program which offers an M.A. or Phd. This has become very appealing to a girl who loves a critical examination of mass media and popular culture, particularly film.

An Education is one of the only films I truly enjoyed this year. Finally, my dreamboat Peter Sarsgaard has got the role I’ve been dying to see him in – so sexy. Set in 1960s England, the film’s backdrop and fashion left me inspired to grab one of the many hats I own and pair it with some leopard. Carey Mulligan looked lovely, but it was every outfit worn by Rosamund Pike that had me taking notes. Obviously clothes are not what a good movie makes, but since this is a fashion blog, I needed to gush.

I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere else, but this film was absolutely feminist. The main character is a brilliant young girl destined for Oxford but decides to discover art, jazz and Paris instead of academia. I won’t reveal how everything unravels but this character does not weaken, instead you see her become an amazing young woman. What I appreciated most is that she has control over her autonomy all the awhile being brilliant and super stylish. Perfect.

See it.

I can’t wait. What a great review. Plus I love Sarsgaards voice, he needs to do books on tape.

OMG IS THAT DOMINIC COOPER I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE?!?!?!?

Aside from that bit right there, erm… I’m really looking forward to seeing this! I also lovelovelove Nick Hornby and I think he wrote the screenplay. I’m glad you liked it, someone else told me they were disappointed by it.

Tis Dominic Copper – he looked terribly dreamy in the movie. I think Nick Horny is pretty good, I do love High Fidelity but I’d had to say this film has now taken the top spot for me. Do you recommend About a Aboy? I don’t care for Hugh Grant but do you think I could put that aside for that film?

I always try to go in with little or no expectations so I’ll really know if I like something. I was really surprised I enjoyed it so much but I genuinely thought is was a good solid film.

About A Boy was good, but I think I couldn’t it appreciate it as much because I don’t have children? At any rate, I’d like to read the book before I watch the movie again. High Fidelity is still my favorite, too. (LOVE John Cusack, the book’s good, too).

I see what you mean about Hugh Grant. He always goes for the smarmy type roles, doesn’t he? Typecasting. But, he was great in Notting Hill which I am a bit embarrassed to say is one of my favorites, so he’s excused. He’s bearable in About A Boy, so I think you should watch it.

I also LOVE John Cusack. I wish he’d stop making these awful films. Have you seen Grosse Point Blank? Love him in that. He used to be sooooooo dreamy.

Oh gosh, I am also embarrassed to say I liked Notting Hill. I’m going to lose all my street cred for admitting to that. It is almost as bad as me thinking Bruce Willis is sexy! Look at you Halie, getting me to spill my deep dark secrets. Haha.

I love Sarsgaard! Dang it! I know I should have watched An Education over A Serious Man. That movie was frustrating to sit through.

    • Natalie says:

Go see it! I’m sure it is still playing in Pasadena, right? You should do what Asael and I do – pay for 1 and see 2! Haha. We do it almost every time. I just love films so much.

Ive really been meaning to see this.

    Cannot wait to see it!
