Nov 09EAT / LOVING HUT

When the results of the Fashion Intel survey were in, one of top things readers wanted to see were the places I go to in L.A. and the surrounding areas. Welcome to the very first, Places to Go.
How can you go wrong with a place called Loving Hut? You cannot. Especially when it is run by people who follow the Supreme Master – Ching Hai – who has been described as “part Buddha, part Madonna”. If you have never visited the Supreme Master TV website, then you haven’t lived! Please check it out and report back. Ha, they even play that station in the restaurant. If you find to that you start slipping away into a cult state of mind, then we’re in the same boat. It is indescribably weird and fascinating.
Loving Hut serves delicious vegan good. Since I’ve decided to drastically change my meat intake, it is great to have a restaurant down the street that offers delicious Vietnamese bun thit nuong (though the noodles weren’t vermicelli), veggie curry and faux chicken tenders. Even with as much as I cook, it is so nice to go somewhere with delicious menu options. Plus, nothing is over $10.
For those of you who know me, you know that I’m all about the drink and this place has some of the best. May I suggest the rose lemonade (pictured above) or the piña colada that Asael got. Amazing. Save the planet and watch this hilarious video. How many of the 15 languages on the screen can you read?

looks delicious!
Next time you’re in the area you should go. Give me a call and we’ll meet you there!
Oh Supreme Master!
I love the heart shaped garnises but she frightens me. My friend’s mom is part of her cult and the stories he told me were kind of scary in a “wow, that’s some serious brainwashing” kina way.
Ching Hai is pretty nuts and I guess that’s the appeal for me. Like, she is uber crazy and now that she has blonde hair it has just sent her over the edge. Like this video of her talking about her relationship with martians http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW2gDd-02-A&feature=player_embedded – you have to watch it. It is sooooo obvious.
I want to know more stories about your mom’s friend! What crazy things are they doing? Are they donating lots of money.
Have you been to Loving Hut?
Looks so tasty!!! Remember you said you would take me there SISSY!!! Thanks for sharing.
No, I said I’d take you to Happy family! But I’ll take you there too. Just get your ass down to so cal please.
im so hungry at work right now! bun thit nuong sounds amazing.
You know bun is my go to meal. I’m always thinking about it and it is so easy to get in our hood. Now that our weather is cooling down it looks like Pho is making it back into my routine. Nothing can beat the veggie, er, “plain” pho @ Saigon Flavor for $4.25…unless you count the other 100 rests. in our area. Haha. Lets me up for some BUN THIT NUONG!
me too! I’m dying and those pictures look soooo good! I already invited a dinner partner via email before leaving this comment. Thanks NJ!
(sorry for any confusing, I was trying to reply to Phuong)
You’re welcome! Bon Apetit.
confusion! (my lord! I must be really hungry)
You and Phuong need to keep snacks handy!
I will be in SoCal in December for sure. Please put that on our sister to do list!!
OK! The list is being made.
Ooooh! Vegan food + tasty bevs + spiritual Madonna icon = AMAZING. Gotta love the SGV.
Don’t forget cult leader! Oh sweet sweet Supreme Master, how I worship you! Their food is quite tasty…I can make you a vegetarian/vegan guide to the SGV if you’d like.
