Bonjour mis amies! Summer is such a fabulous season, as it allows me to enjoy activities I might not otherwise indulge in while at university. Watching films is in the top tier of things I like to do, so I was absolutely thrilled knowing that my favorite director (EVER) had her film coming to America this summer. Even better was the fact that IFC not only released it in theaters, but we could buy it on our cable and watch it in the comfort of our own home. Tres bien.
Une Vieille Maîtresse, or The Last Mistress, comes recommended by the Fashion INTEL. If you enjoy period pieces with great fashion and explicit sex, then this is right up your alley. For those of you who also enjoy the films de Catherine Breillat, I’d like to warn you that this film does not have the existential pornography/inward thinking as most of her films do. In fact, I would call this her mainstream attempt. Nonetheless, it is worth your time, especially if you love lengthy dialogue and little action. Pas mal?
Asia Argento fit perfectly in this role – her look was dark and intriguing, just as some would describe her outside of film. Playing a Spanish/Italian mistress who was born illegitimately to a matador and an aristocrat, she is slothed in lots of gold, black, and lace, with always a hint of red. Here are some modern ideas you can apply to making yourself a bit more saucy this summer.
