If I Love You magazine wanted some big butts gracing their new issue, surely they could’ve given me a call because as many of you know, I’m willing and able.
The discourse as of late on various blogs and twitters has taken a turn towards the all too familiar question – why is there only one type of woman represented in fashion magazines? That woman, in case you’ve been asleep your whole life, is white, thin and wearing clothes you probably cannot afford. Suddenly a few “plus-size” models, er, Crystal Renn, are thrown into the pages of V Magazine and people are applauding the fashion industry’s baby step into acknowledging the existence of other women. Finally, the validation we’ve all been waiting for! (note the sarcasm)
I cannot tell you where the inspiration for this editorial comes from. The editor over at I Love Cat Party suggests that the spread was inspired by Joan from Mad Men, one of my favorite shows. You know what I’d like to have seen? Joan actually wearing these clothes. Not a computer altered ass and boobs on your typical model (Katlin Aas).

I loathe it when people ask “are you a shoe or bag person?” Not just because the question has been asked 1 zillion times, but because the questioner always fails to throw jewelry into that cliched ultimatum. My answer would be jewelry in case you were asking.
These are two necklaces that I acquired these past two weeks. One is vintage and from Reno, the other from Forever 21. I’ll let you guess which is which. Upon spotting them I was whisked away to Dries Van Noten land and there was no turning back. They reminded me of that amazing gold cluster necklace I recently saw on the runway that turned my knees into butter. Nowhere near identical but definitely in the same family.
I promised lots of people that I’d start posting some more of my style on Fashion Intel. Maybe it will help you get better acquainted with who I am? You’ll definitely be seeing lots of
1 jewelry 2 black 3 gold 4 s+m shoes 5 vintage
You won’t be seeing the following
1 80s fashion 2 “it items” 3 frowns 4 bad model poses 5 cliches/platitudes
Thanks for reading. Have a lovely weekend.

This weekend Phuong and I made our way over to Barneys under the impression that there was a huge sale. I provided this false information as I did not read the flyer clearly reading that it was the Barneys Outlet having a 30%-70% sale. Whoopsie! It was worth it just to be smacked by Jennifer Lopez while looking at Stella McCartney dresses. That’s right, J.Lo was in the house. I’d like to add that she not only had awful taste in clothes but one of the worst attitudes I’ve seen in awhile. On the upside, her children looked mighty precious and extremely happy. Though I didn’t expect her to be the most warm individual, I was nonetheless disappointed in how she carried herself. Much taller than I expected too.
Ah yes, the decisions. I’ve been looking for a dress to wear to my sister’s wedding, which is in 2 weeks! Yikes. I tried on a Lanvin (out of my price range), a Dries Van Noten (not the right look) and a lovely black Stella McCartney. I’m still debating whether I am going back for it. I had fun trying on some jumpsuits as you can also see. Helmut Lang had a great black silk one on sale and Alexander Wangs reminded me of being on the school yard.
Aussenhaut also faced a tough decision – which dress to buy? The knotty blue dress vs the cage dress. A deciding factor? The $300 difference. She walked home with the blue, which I absolutely love but now she’s found the cage dress on sale! Any advice for my dear friend?

Today is the first day of December, so I thought I would introduce what will hopefully become a weekly feature on Fashion Intel – The Week in Pictures. I’ll show you some of the best fashion moments of my week and give you a glimpse into what inspires me and my blog.
Phuong [pictured above] is a friend I’ve known since high school [she graduated 3rd in her class!] who introduced us to the free tacos at The Gold Room in Echo Park. Speaking of free, her friend gave her that awesome Marc by Marc Jacobs bow shirt which is accompanied by a pa-pow gold ring. My boyfriend [of 5 years!] was oh so kind to model this beautiful Phillip Lim cashmere sweater for me at Barneys. We saw it in men’s while he was looking, and I just died over it. Those gold buttons are killer, but it was way too long and baggy for me.
If I haven’t said this before on Fashion Intel, I’ll say it now, I LOVE HATS! I came across this Alexander McQueen hat, and thought to myself – who would truly wear this giant thing? Made of fox, no less. Maybe me, if I only wore it at home with nothing else. Hilarious. Oh, and those Dries Van Notens were two seconds away from going home with me, had they the right size. Sheesh. I might go back to convince myself that they’ll work out. At half-off, what can I say?

Correct pronunciation is on the top of my list of “rules people should live by”. My sign is Virgo, so I cannot help but be critical of correct linguistics and try to enforce them in my life. These three choices are names and words I often hear incorrectly role of people’s tongues, so I was absolutely thrilled to find the new site FORVO.com [All the words in the world. Pronounced] for us all to use as a reference.
What are some words you just hate when people mispronounce?

This Fall, great shoes are lining stores from Third Street to the Glendale Galleria. I truly cannot believe how many marvelously stylish shoes are out there right now, and plenty under $200. [Don't get me started on the $695 Dries Van Noten's I am keeping my eye on.] I picked these up over the weekend, and I couldn’t help think of a conversation a friend and I had about our love of the marriage of black and brown. Keep them coming!
One of the things I keep in mind when I go shopping is WWCD – What would Carine [Roitfeld] do? When I have this mantra, it is easy to steer clear from shoe disasters and regretable unflattering skirts. She has consisitently worn the best shoes in the world and always before you see them on anyone else. Yes, she has the benefit of being the editor of Paris Vogue, but she never gets it wrong. Thank you for your non-stop inspiration Carine.
