LAUGH, POUT, & SMIRK

smilepoutsmirk

I’m kinda zonked right now from a hilarious and fun filled evening but this photo was too good to not share. And it was the only one I took the whole evening! Karla, Geri, and I are demonstrating some signature blogger facial expressions: the laugh, the pout, and the smirk.

A big thank you to Lucrecia of Fashion is Poison who provided the vintage clothing and a cool makeup artist on set. Shout out to Kat at Urban Decay. What a treat to meet and hang out with the L.A. fashion bloggers. Look forward to seeing you all again.  I’ll be adding you to my blogroll, no doubt.

GOLDEN AGE

Last week I ran into an old handsome friend of mine from the screen-printing lab and he reminded me about all the art we used to make.  I considered art school for a brief moment but thought I was much too rigid for it or at least that was the hilarious excuse I used at the time.  It wasn’t my number one passion so I chose another route which I loved but I still feel a longing for making art.

In this conversation I mentioned one of my best friends and lab regulars, Martine Syms.  I told the handsome artist about the amazing things Martine and her boyfriend Marco are doing these days and it made me so proud to know her.  It also reminded me that Martine featured me on her blog back in May and I forgot to mention it on Fashion Intel. You’ll want to read it, trust me..  Check it out here.

Besides having a great blog at Golden Age, they also launched what looks to be their first Golden Age shirt. [seen above]  Do yourself a favor and buy one from their online shop.  If you’re in the Chicago area make sure to check out their store @ 1744 W. 18th Street.

Look at all the great people who stopped by our spot to buy fashion goodies and sweat treats. It was a pleasure meeting all of you. You were a unique and fun crowd. I look forward to seeing you around town.

What the heck would I do without my amazing friends? Seriously. A big thanks to Tania for making this event happen, Stefani for your endless ideas and encouragement, and Phuong, who is always a party who carries her own loaf of bread and wine.

I love this handsome man. 5.5 years strong!

As you can see, we had a blast at the Flea Market.  It was totally exhausting but well worth it as I got to meet some lovely bloggers and sell about $200 worth of merch and cupcakes.  Phuong, Asael and I got cozy in our little area and had a blast talking to fun people all day long.  We were especially charmed by the hostess of the event,  Alexi from I’mboycrazy.com.  She’s hilarious and kept us laughing the whole time. The band Warpaint was really great and look forward to seeing them again.  They’re doing an instore at Amoeba June 18.  I recommend you check them out.

Big thanks to my friends and parents who stopped by to show their Fashion Intel love.  My employee Noelle [pictured, red coat] even went home with some super cute clothes including a floral dress from Taghrid.  In true Phuong style we had some bottles of wine and Stefani even brought a delicious bottle of bubbly.  And how I can forget my cutie boyfriend who helped me put everything together! xoxo

NEW TO THE CLOSET

fi040709

fi0407092

Greetings readers!  I got back from San Francisco yesterday and wanted to share some new items I picked up for my travels.  I was in desperate need of some new shoes – others might tell you differently – so I was so psyched when I came across these two pairs that had to make it into my closet.  Those black booties really jumped at me.  I wear a lot of black ruffles, layers, and scallops so these were undoubtedly made just for me.  The platforms have been making the rounds so I’ve already scuffed the wood, but they feel like I am walking on air.

You might remember from a post I made in December [read here] about a Marc by Marc Jacobs tiger print trench that I was just dying to have.  Well die no more because it is mine.  When I truly want something I do not stop until I get it; this is another case for the record books.  I want to send a thanks to my dear friend Phuong for sending me the tip on where to buy it for the most amazing price.  It is great to have your friends looking out for you.

Oh, I almost forgot my dearest Chiquito – who loves to lay on my clothes whenever he can.  I am pretty quick to hang up my wares, but if he spots something he is quick to pounce.  I am sure you’ll be seeing more of him.

Dear Readers,
Thanks for making the Fashion Intel so fun to write for.  Today I was reading Jonathan Adler’s 2005 book entitled My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living and I was so inspired by it that I felt as if I was going to burst.  Two words: Modern Hippies – that is the perfect lifestyle for me.  I’m also talking to you Stefani Greenwood & Sarah Lancaster!

Ah yes, my point.  I am so inspired by the blogging fashionistas out there, but the Fashion Intel isn’t about my daily outfits, although I am sure you’d love them, but rather bridging the worlds of fashion and intellect as I have never believed neither was mutually exclusive.  I have always been impressed by designers, models, and artists, so it bothers me when I hear a scoff at the afforementioned.  You are probably saying – who does that?  Well, plenty do.  Acting as if you are not influenced by the artists in our culture is ridiculous and as Mr. Adler told me today, I should try to be inspired by as many people I can.

I think it is great for one’s readers to have some insight into their life, as perspective is great.  You might not see photos of me frolicking in the woods or on the side of the road wearing the latest from American Apparel [that's not my style anyway] but I will begin giving glimpses into my life.  That seems to be a popular idea on the web so I’ll make an attempt.

Here is my desk.  If you wonder what my wallpaper [computer] is, it is a picture of me wearing a mask [from that awful movie Saw] at a drug store.  I loathe those Saw movies, but I think that puppet is so cute!  Really! Also, I cannot live without flowers and the Decembre/Janvier issues of Vogue Paris.
