AUTONOMY

“Everything I do, I do for Ava.  I want Ava to have the best life I can give her.  I want my daughter’s thoughts to be her thoughts.  I want her feelings to be her feelings.  I want Ava to be creative and I want her to trust and listen to herself.  That means I want my daughter to be autonomous.  I want her to be the empowered young woman.  That’s what I want for her.”

Kelly, as if you already didn’t garner my love with your collecting of crystals, talking astrology and buying sex toys at one of my favorite sex shops, Babes in Toyland. Now you’re discussing the empowerment of young women and the importance of autonomy.  I cannot believe this is even being aired on television – thank you!

If you’re not watching Kell on Earth, then what are you doing?

KELL ON EARTH

I’m more of an ancient feminist than a modern feminist. I believe in the goddesses. I like that whole warrior tribal thing. – Kelly Cutrone

Well then my dear Kell, we would’ve had a blast in my Roots of the Patriarchy: Goddesses and Heroines course at UCLA.  Ever since my ears heard the shrill tongue of Kelly Cutrone on that god awful show The Hills, I was in love.  I was desperate for someone on reality TV who didn’t have fake teeth and a tan and Kelly was the answer.  She represented so much of what I love and admire in strong women: a brain, sharp tongue and the unwillingness to put up with bullshit.  Plus she did all that while wearing obscene amounts of black and not giving a fuck.

In case you haven’t figured out just yet, I subscribe to the school of smart women who wear black. Throw in a iron fist and you got yourself a good time!

You know, people have strong connotations of what women on television should say and what they should wear and how they should look. And I’m just not into it.” [Kell] I’m not into either!  In fact, if I see one more toothy idiot on TV mispronouncing Givenchy, I think I’m going to slit my wrists. Thank you Kell for saying no to blonde highlights and yes to Martin Margiella.

Kell on Earth premiers Feb. 1.
