I can appreciate it when fashion appropriates something underground, subversive, and considered weird by some and photographs it. Fashion has rarely shied away from the erotic but the adult industry is rarely credited for the art is has produced.
I’ve made this observation before and I’ll do it again – it is the absolute worst when I see something, such as fetish, including latex, leather, and chains getting bastardized by people who have no concept of the culture. I’m talking to you fashion bloggers.
There’s a need for critical thinking, especially when it comes to our own sexual nature. Observe the rise in popularity with textiles and jewelry influenced by bdsm, and fashion spreads drenched in eroticism. It is evident that the sexual underground and adult film industry is no doubt influencing both fashion designers and magazine editors. Rightfully so, as there are credible artist in that media genre as well.

One particular project that I’d like to highlight is a short from Belladonna’s new release The Best of Lexi Belle entitled “Cat and Mouse.” It is probably one of the best stylized adult films I’ve ever seen. Not only does the set feel authentic (filmed in an old motel in downtown L.A.) but the costumes appear as if they’ve been pulled of the rack at Agent Provocateur. The women are undoubtedly intriguing, Lexi Belle looking her absolute best as a menacing brunette. Whether your interested in the sexual content or not, it is obvious what talent and style was used in making this. Directed by a woman, starring 2 women, from a production company owned by a woman; all aimed at your pleasure. Fascinating!
