The Week in Photos

fi122908

Since you know that the Fashion Intel is back after a morose December, there is no better time then now to show you what I have been up to this week.  Last weekend we had a lovely trip to the desert, where we stayed at The Parker Palm Springs.  I’ve said this before – they have the best orange juice at Norma’s!  It tastes just like when my grandparents brought me fresh squeezed from their own trees.  The Jonathan Adler decor is amazing, especially his ceramics and photography choices in the rooms.  Carol Channing overlooking our toilet was amazing.  We played a round of croquet, sipped cocktails at the lemonade stand, and simply enjoyed the cold desert air.  The snow capped mountains were also a lovely sight to see.  If you’re going to stay in one place in Palm Springs, chose The Parker, if not only for the Hermes soap in the room.

While in the desert, I picked up this amazing 3.1 Phillip Lim short coat [pictured right].  I’ve already got some good wear and compliments from it, so it was absolutely worth the investment.

After the holiday, my mother, sister and I decided to check out the remolded Macy*s in Pasadena because my mom bought me some Calvin Klein’s in the wrong size.  She knew she did, but she thought if I had something physical to open on Christmas, it would be more fun.  Can I just say that Calvin Klein has some on the softest cotton, next to The Row of course.  While browsing, I fell in love with this Marc by Marc Jacobs coat [pictured left], but I knew my mom wasn’t going to throw down $558 right after Christmas, er, ever.

On Friday I had a few hours of free time in the SGV, so I called up Phuong and we hit up Target and Lee’s for Vietnamese coffee [yummy!]  The Target in Alhambra always puts out its Go International early, so I thought we could check it out for the new Thakoon installment.  What do you know, we were in luck!  I picked up that lovely dress and floral coat, all gifts of mother when I showed her the receipt.  What a Friday night, topped off with $15 Chinese massage.

Last but certainly not least, is my favorite new piece of jewelry [pictured right].  This amazing piece was given to me by the amazing Stefani Greenwood for Christmas.  It’s made of pyrite, and has magical powers that will aid in my cardiovascular system.  Who couldn’t use that?  I’ve been wearing it everywhere and everyone wants to know where I got it.  One of a kind.  I think her and I should make jewelry together in 2009.

Black, White, & Hot Pink All Over

One of our favorite sites, Jezebel.com, posted Target’s new Go International look book yesterday – unfortunately we couldn’t see it because there was a problem with the server. We did what any fashion intel would do and found the look book images in Target’s “pressroom.” You can view the entire look book here.

One of the pieces definitely caught my eye, not only because it has one my favorite designs – houndstooth – but because the outfit’s look reminded be of a Marc by Marc Jacobs sack I’ve been seeing around. If you think you’ll be wearing black, white, and hot pink this winter, I say go for the Georgette Ruffle Top in Black/White Houndstooth, $29.99 & Corduroy Pencil Skirt in Black/White Houndstooth, $26.99 paired with some hot pink tights. If you can swing a little bit more, buy the MBMJ Printed Big Tote for $170.

I'll Have the Chai, please

Richard Chai for Target has been all over the web this week, and it didn’t take me long to pick which items I know will be coming home with me.  Can you say Purple People Eater?  Purple is such a difficult color and I respect those who can pull it off.  Sometimes I think if Vera Wang can do it, then so can I!  But then again, Vera is always draped in diamonds and furs, and my closet is certainly not packed with those accouterments.

My definite picks are Long Cardigan in Indigo ($39.99), Colorblock Tie Dress in Gray/Purple ($44.99) and the Cotton Canvas Trench Coat in Plaid Print ($44.99).  You can check the rest of the collection here, and read a bio on Chai if you already didn’t have him in your designers to love file.

Right on Target

The fashion intelligentsia loves good design under $50, though you often find us swooning over $1500 Balenciaga bags at Barneys – that bag will be mine! We always wait with anticipation to hear who’s next for Go International (Upcoming is Richard Chai), and we are happy that during the designer interim we are given another option, something better than anything else you can find on the Target racks.

Here are our picks for the next GO INTERNATIONAL capsule. We are absolutely drooling over that Tiered Ruffle Dress in Floral Print ($39.99), and wouldn’t mind adding the Multi-Layer Ruffle Skirt in Black with White Trim ($29.99) and the Button-Front Ruffle Dress in Navy ($29.99) to our closet.

See more looks at the TARGET press room.

Spotted, Blair at Target

Blair

I am going through Gossip Girl withdrawl, as I know you probably are too! What TV has there been to live for since Blair and Serena have left our lives? Now that images has been surfacing on the internet of upcoming GG I couldn’t be more excited to see what Blair Waldorf has in store for us this Spring. Sorry for you Serena lovers – Blair takes the cake for Fashion Intelligentsia. Don’t even get us started on how Blake Lively was featured on Teen Vogue sans Leighton Meester. What a great way to put those feud rumors to rest.

There have been countless posts on the fashion touted by Blair, and often cries from girls who simply cannot afford to wear Marc Jacobs, Phillip Lim, and Tory Burch everyday. For those of you who can barely manage to pay your Barneys card from that $200 silk headband you bought in hopes of becoming Blair (not me, I get mine from F21), here are some wallet friendly Blair-inspired options you can find at Target.

xoxo, gossip girl

p.s. Watch Queen B try to take back her thrown April 21 (I am too old to love this show this much!)

  1. Couture Mesh Headband – $7.99 (very Marc Jacobs, remember his gems?)
  2. Gryson Drawstring Tote – $49.99
  3. Pierrot Leaf Print Dress – $34.99
  4. Heart Bandeau - $14.99 (top) , $14.99 (bottoms)
  5. Patent Strappy Sandals – $19.99
